I put a lot of pressure on myself to deliver great experiencesLearning is painful but it makes you grow. Even though I train and coach people I feel pain as I’m going through a challenging learning process. So this follows on from last week where at the moment I’m on this big project, there is a lot at stake and I feel that pressure. We are bringing in new processes and procedures, I am having to influence and learn at the same time but gradually it’s all coming together. However every day I have that feeling in my stomach and have to think, am I nervous or excited? At first, it was nerves, I put a lot of pressure on myself to deliver great experiences and as I’m going through that learning process, that part where you’re unsure, where you think is this right? The key around all this is, is to put in the work and let time do its thing. Things are gradually starting to come together, it’s aligning my motivation to learn, with the work! It’s my opportunity to step up and continue to lead in a way that is supportive and collaborative I want to make sure that it goes as well as it can, so I have been super detailed at getting to know the people I am working with. Reviewing their reports and thinking about how I will continue to assist them through coaching and the schedule that needs to be set. It’s my opportunity to step up and continue to lead in a way that is supportive and collaborative and at the same time allows them to grow through the pain of learning! I realise now I have my journey and I need to step into that fear and feel it myself. In the end, this is not about me but the people I serve! So let’s come back to the question does pain make you grow? Yes, I’m feeling that pain although it’s less at the moment as I’ve been working on this for the past three weeks. No doubt there will be more challenges and I will feel that pain again. What I have learned from the past and this experience is, is that you need to lean into that pain. You need to take action, you just need to start doing and jumping into things. This may not be your natural style and this was not my style previously I would avoid it, but even though I know it’s painful I know on the other side of that is where my success and those I am helping lies. No one can do this work for you, many years ago this is what I tried to do, I tried to get things done by getting others to step into what needed to be done. I realise now I have my journey and I need to step into that fear and feel it myself. In that way, I can serve others even more! You need to stretch and that’s painful and uncomfortable. The thought occurred to me when will this end? The fact is the pain doesn’t end if you’re growing because once you get whatever it is nailed, you need more pain to grow. You need to stretch and that’s painful and uncomfortable. That’s what success demands, success is not coming to you because of luck, yes you can influence luck and as Simon Squibb said luck is a skill, the skill comes from taking risks and jumping into things you’ve never tried. Whether you win or lose, fail or succeed there will be a lesson that you can take to the next challenge you face. Success is earned and nature has a great way of you feeling pain so when you do succeed it is well deserved! If there was no pain we would not value the success, that’s natures secret sauce! As Apollo Creed said in Rocky 4, “We are the warrior's Stallion and without some damn war to fight the warrior may as well be dead Stallion” As Apollo Creed said in Rocky 4, “We are the warriors' Stallion and without some damn war to fight the warrior may as well be dead Stallion” The way I see it is that we are always at war with ourselves, that means getting better each day and facing our fear. Facing the fear is the war and you are the warrior that’s why you’re alive. So are you with me? Let’s go and let’s do this, exciting times are ahead on the other side of fear. So embrace the pain, win and grow. Stay inspired!
