Another week has flown by and we have recorded and released yet another episode of the podcast for Inspiration Nation (click here to go to the podcast) and it’s now on You Tube! But all this would not have been possible if we didn’t face failure As an example when we were recording some of the videos for the podcast the batteries ran out so we only recorded half of the episode. But that was okay, that’s the best because that’s how we learned; Ryan our super resourceful camera guru, just made the best of what he had and put up what we had recorded with a link to the full podcast. This is what learning is all about; it’s the excitement of learning something new, or in some cases the fear of learning something new, but once you have learned it, it gives you a sense of achievement because you did it. You decided to push through and succeed and there is no better feeling.
Everything we do in terms of learning involves failure. If you check out our podcast episode 16 we go into great detail about how we go about learning, and it will put into context for you why we go through the phases we do. Lee does an excellent explanation and it’s well worth a watch. We also have Ryan on the episode which added an extra dimension to this episode with some great questions! So why are we so fearful of failing? I know for me it’s uncertainty whether, I will be able to learn it and whether I will succeed. It’s also been judgement, and what people will think of me if I don’t achieve what I want to achieve. Luckily through this process I have been fortunate enough to face this demon, and currently I am okay with doing my videos now, because everyday for the last 6 months I have posted a video and this has made the fear less every time. Now this does not mean I have eliminated fear, it will always be there and it will strike at the most strangest times, so I know as I go through the levels, that life will throw something else at me, and I will have to learn something new, and again the cycle of learning kicks in. You see when life throws those things at you, life is asking you to learn, to grow, so if you can understand the reasons why we as humans were designed to learn, you no longer have to back off from that fear, you can start to face it down. This is what I talked about in the podcast in terms of exposure to that fear. If I take the daily videos as an example; when I first started doing them I did fear judgement and in fact someone on Twitter retweeted that it was poor content. Now I could have stopped, and yes it was not the best video, but I did it. What would have happened if I stopped doing the videos? Well, I would not be writing this blog now for you to read; the podcast would not have been born and we would not have the listeners that we now have that listen to the podcast and all the support we have on social media! I did not give into the fear and whether I succeed or fail is not the point, the point is, is that I tried my hardest to do the thing I love which is coaching! If I had stopped, that would have been it; I would not have been following my passion and I would not be happy with my life! I have continued, and now I know that I just have to push through, and this is what I want for you. So just remember that you will fail, it’s just how you respond to that failure which will define you. Go and live your extraordinary life and be amazing.
