Winging it! This is one of the hardest things for me, although I am getting better at it and going with the flow! What an apt thing to happen for another milestone episode as we are up to number 20! We have definitely been creating and experimenting, and this has meant on some occasions that we needed to wing it!
To some extent I do wing things; take for example this blog, as I am writing I am just tuning into my own intuition and my thoughts about winging it, it’s coming from my real self, what I feel about winging it from my internal values and experience of life up to this point. When I think back about re-launching my coaching, alot of the time I have been winging it; I have to just start doing and not overthinking it. Yes, I have an outline of a plan and an imagining of the outcome I would prefer, but most of the time it does not turn out the way I think and most of the time it turns out to be better. Take the podcast; in just 20 episodes it has changed and grown in terms of content and the amazing community which is you being Inspiration Nation! So I just want to give an amazing shout out to you guys and thank you for supporting the podcast and all the content we put out there. So can winging it really help you? This is a very personal matter, and in my opinion it teaches you not to over prepare, and to just jump it despite the fear and the judgement that may come your way. Just remember the more you rise, the more you will have people judging you and having a view on what you do. The most important thing is that you are being your genuine self when you are going with the flow. When I am writing this I prefer the term going with the flow rather than winging it, but that is just a preference, that’s what resonates with my personal values. It’s not that winging it is wrong, it’s just that my preference to call it is flow! It is the same thing really but I have to interpret it through my own values and execute winging it or going with the flow in my own authentic way and you can do the same. I think when we are going with the flow or winging it, we just need to be authentic about what we do; if you don’t know something when you are doing this just be honest and say you don’t know! Even the best minds and successful people do not have all the answers. I saw an interview once with Elon Musk where he was asked about the impact of AI, where he thinks it will go and whether it would take over the world. He was also asked how he would stop it; he simply said “I don’t know” I loved that and just shows that he was honest and he was just winging it; he was being authentic. He is having to respond to a question that he did not know he was going to be asked and it came from a genuine place and he was brave enough to do it. That’s where I feel this works best, when you are coming from a place of good intention and honesty. People appreciate it because it is not planned or pre-determined; a lot of the time when people pre-determine responses or plan things is to minimise risk, but most of the time it is out of fear, or the fear of judgement. The amount of times these same things such as fear, doubt and judgement come up in different subjects is just amazing, and if we can be aware and can catch that moment where we feel that fear, then we can consciously think about it then jump in and just go with the flow. Life is about flow; life can sometimes be about winging it. Life is going to throw you some curve balls and you have got to be able to pivot to deal with those events that you just were not expecting. So having reflected on this subject, we do need to go with he flow or pivot, because without that we will struggle to deal with the events that life may just out in front us. So I now see this as training for your life, the more you can go with the flow and have a good intention behind what you do or say the more you will be able to deal with life in general. That will make your stronger and you will just enjoy your life more! The next time you get a challenge, or are asked to do something and you are not prepared but you have to deliver, go with the flow, wing it, but be honest in your intention about why you are going to do it. Whether you fail or succeed, this will help you grow; it will build up your resilience muscle and the more you do it, your brain will adapt and find answers that you never thought possible. All it takes is your bravery to step into your life and take a chance on something, just remember to be proud of your effort for jumping in and not the results. You will learn and you will get better, just don’t get disheartened because that is part of life’s journey. Keep it all going, make sure you enjoy every moment of your life, take the opportunity and see how things pan out and most of all look to challenge yourself every single day of your life to get better each day.
