“Procrastination is, we know we should do it but we don’t want to!” - Joe Noya Dealing with procrastination is difficult because when we procrastinate we just don’t want to do it, even though we know we should. So first things, first we have to change that should into a MUST and how do we do this? But first, let me tell you what happened this morning. We are behind on recording the podcast episode because Lee who usually hosts was not well. So now this has thrown my schedule into mess and I know I have to switch up my schedule to make sure that: 1 - Have enough content ready for the podcast 2 - I have enough time to write the blog post for the podcast episode. So I always come up with the subject for the podcast episode so I know what I am going to be talking about, and that’s what I put into the blog posts. It’s just a different version of the podcast where I add additional thoughts. Now usually I write the blog after the publishing of the episode, but that’s not going to happen because I am now writing the blog post before we have recorded or even published the episode! “Change is one of the biggest supporters of procrastination because we don’t want to change!” - Joe Noya So what’s this got to do with procrastination? Well, I just didn’t want to change my schedule and I just wanted to put it off, because I didn’t feel like it! Wow, our brains do like to put things off! But I knew this is a MUST, every week I do a blog post and I would be disappointed with myself if I didn’t write it. So I am writing it now, but I won’t publish it until after the podcast episode has been published! “Dealing with procrastination is about challenging your current mindset” - Joe Noya This all means that I am dealing with procrastination now, I have had to challenge my mindset around what it doesn’t want to do. Because if we don’t challenge our mindset when we are in procrastination mode we won’t get the things done we need to get done and that means we won’t hit our GOALS or make our DREAMS HAPPEN. That’s the key, it’s all well and good crushing it when things are easy, what I am talking about is pushing through when things are hard! When you don’t want to write that blog when you don’t want to post that video when you don’t want to work on your website. The key difference here is that I MUST write this blog post because my mission and intention is to help people deal with their own mindset, this means I must challenge those thoughts and do it even though I don’t want to. I am experiencing this now and in the moment so you are getting the full benefit of this experience. I want you to crush it even when you don’t FEEL like it! “Have a mission, goal and a purpose” - Joe Noya The reason I push through is that I have a mission to help, a mission to wake people up that you can do the things you want to do. I have a purpose and that’s what I dial back to when I am procrastinating! The other thing is that I have people counting on me to post the blog, you guys! I also have Lee and Ryan, because without this blog post the podcast doesn’t have as much impact and you don’t get to read the stories that go on behind the scenes that build Inspiration Nation. You see it’s all about the mission and purpose and you can have this too. - “So build a plan and execute when you are in procrastination mode” - Joe NoyaSo let’s get some points down so you can use this in your own life, here’s the plan. 1 - Have a mission, a goal and a purpose - Make sure you have something you are aiming at, what really gets you going and really excites you. If you could do that thing for the rest of your life what would it be? Design your life, write out in detail how you want your life to be and when you have the feeling of procrastination, go read what you wrote and that should pull you through. 2 - Just do something connected with your mission - Even if you don’t feel like it, just do one small thing that will get you on your way. So writing this blog post came from me posting a short video this morning and that created momentum for me to write this post today! So you can do the same. 3 - Who do you look up to and what would they do? For me, I have aspirational mentors like Tony Robbins and Evan Carmichael. What would they do? They would do it even if they didn’t want to! I have just bought David Goggins book and he is all about mindset and pushing through. If you don’t know who he is check out the video below, so INSPIRATIONAL! “Building MOMENTUM crushes procrastination” - Joe NoyaThat’s how you deal with procrastination, you just have to just do something that creates momentum so you start and you become proud of yourself. It’s about cultivating your mindset so you push through the times you just want to sit back and do nothing! It stops you from overthinking and gets you into a mode of action which is always going to trump just thinking about something.
