First of all I would like to thank you for reading this blog, and if you are new to my world welcome to InspirationNation! I know some of you are regulars to my blog, for that I am truly grateful and thank you for sharing my message! I have started getting comments on my blog and that is just one way of getting the message out there because I want you all to win. The only way we can do this is by sharing the message and helping others with the knowledge that we gain, that’s what I am doing here and that’s what you can do once you have read my blog, watched by videos etc.
So what am I talking about today! You see we unconsciously get ourselves into grooves that do not help us, this might include not eating the right food, binging on too many TV programmes etc.i.e., The issue is that it is not all your fault, we are bombarded every day with images, products that we must have. So say for example food, we have adverts all the time which advertise foods which are not good for us, so unless we are conscious of our eating habits then we will go and eat that food. So if our goal was to live a healthy lifestyle and we were not conscious about the decisions and actions we take, it would be very easy to slip into old grooves, habits! I still struggle with this, for example I had a large meal at lunch time, my beloved then says let’s get fish and chips for dinner (this is an English traditional fully fried meal for those if you who are not UK based!); now I had already had a large lunch and my brain was in that groove saying; “yes this is okay, have that food it’s okay; it's also a habit because we eat at that time each day. What I almost didn’t account for was that had had a big lunch, so I really didn’t need that large fish and chips. So I didn’t have it because I wasn’t feeling hungry, that involved me checking in with my body consciously. Now I am not perfect and I did sneak a few chips, two or three, but that was enough to satisfy my brain, but what I did was modify with a view to eliminating. I also limited the intake. But I didn’t have the full blown meal because I am conscious that I want to start to improve my eating habits little by little, so I had my small win! This is just one example and you can apply this to everything, think about all the grooves you have in your life (the habits) how often do you think of them consciously? Be honest; we brush our teeth, we have breakfast and really we don’t think about it at all, we go through the motions! So I am writing this blog post to wake you up! Be conscious of those grooves and decide which ones help you reach the goals for your life and those which don’t. Grooves are formed every time we take an action, and every time we take an action the groove gets deeper and it’s harder to change, it can be done but it will take much more effort. You need to climb out of that groove and form another groove that serves what you want to do. It’s like lifting the stylus off a record and placing it in a different place (for those of you who remember vinyl! I am old school, though I know they are making a come back) So as usual I will give you some tips which might help you change your groove! 1 - Write down all the things you do in a typical day. 2-Identify which of those habits are necessary, such as hygiene etc and which habits or grooves are not serving you. 3 - Highlight the most important groove or habit which is not serving you and needs to change and just start being conscious and try and change that habit. You will need to get the same benefit that the old habit provided. So if you smoke for instance and the pay off is that you use that as a way to socialise, try and choose a place where you're not allowed to smoke but invite your friends to the new place. You see you still get the pay off but you change the groove or habit. 4 - Get an accountability partner. Find someone who is on a similar mission and support each through the journey. There you go, this is something to think about, it won’t be easy but start small and also if you don’t succeed the first time keep trying different ways where you can change your groove. Failing is learning and it’s okay to fail as long as you learn the lesson! If you don’t life will keep repeating the lesson until you learn it; she has a funny way of making us do this if we are conscious about it. So I hope this has helped, comment below and get involved, Share your stories as I would love to know how you are all getting on. Let’s do this together as an awesome community; until next time #InspirationNation
