If it matters to you it won’t feel like workIt’s always your choice what you do, the key is to know whether it matters or not. If it matters to you it won’t feel like work if it does it will be stressful. Simon Sinek for me framed this well if we are working hard at something we don’t love then that’s stress when we are working hard on something we love then its passion! If you’re working late on something that matters to you, you don’t mind at all as it comes from a place of passion, this is really what it’s all about. When I think about writing the blog it comes from passion, yes it’s late it’s after work and guess what I call it working on my passion. If I didn’t enjoy it then it would be stressful and that’s not sustainable! This is what I see a lot of in the workplace. People go to work and say they are stressed this is because it’s not their passion! This is what I see a lot of in the workplace. People go to work and say they are stressed this is because it’s not their passion! Loads of people are going to work to pay the bills and that’s okay too, the key is to start shaping things so you can start to move towards what you want to do. So this all comes round to answer the question, does what you do matter? Of course, if it’s your passion then it does matter, it gives you that sense that what you’re doing is important for you. So as an example this blog matters to me, I enjoy writing about self-development and off the back of that I want this to serve you since you are taking your valuable time to read this right now. When you do things that you love and that gives you energy then you will show up in your life being the best version of you! The way I see this is if we can find a way to do the things we love that give us energy then it does matter. When you do things that you love and that gives you energy then you will show up in your life being the best version of you! So if I can continue to help others in whatever I do then the best version of me will always turn up. I will be motivated to do the things I don’t like to do because at the core I am doing something that matters and makes a difference. Anyone I communicate with will feel that difference because I am doing the thing I love this is the byproduct. People will have great interactions with me, because of my intention to serve and help. So let’s look at the opposite, what if I didn’t want to help people but decided that I would just write this blog just to get famous and just do it for the money. Then as I said this would be stress and it would take a ton of energy and the likely hood it would be long term would be very slim indeed. It may continue for a while but the quality of the intention would drop and so after a while that would come across in the writing and the blog would have the opposite effect.
The last thing to remember is that whatever you decide to do you are swapping your vital life for whatever you are spending your time on. Whatever you are saying yes to you are saying no to something else. So just remember that when you engage in any activity make sure you do things that matter, that are your passion projects and if you do that then you will have a much richer quality of life. This is what I want for you. Stay inspired!
