How to discover your success mindset and three tips to take on challenges! Welcome back again guys to another instalment of my coaching blog. As promised I am aiming to do one of these a week. I would just like to thank you all for engaging with my content, all you guys are amazing! So this week I am going to talk about how to discover your success mindset. When you look around you, you can find people who have achieved the success you want to achieve. Only this week we had Andy Murray and Serena Williams win Wimbledon. When you look at both of these great competitors you can see the challenges they had to go through before they broke into their successful patterns. For Andy Murray, it was beating Roger Federer in the Olympics, before then he had failed to beat Roger in a final and had a mental block over those defeats. However he chose to continue to push through until eventually he learned and broke through this barrier by being resilient and also having a mindset of continuing to push forward even in the face of adversity, Commentators were doubting his mindset about winning at Wimbledon, but his belief got him through; and I believe that he would have had amazing support from his mum who is always in the stands and his team! I know that Ivan Lendl had a massive influence on his mindset and belief! By being resilient and intentional about what we do we attract the people we need into our lives to attain the success we desire. Serena’s story is a little different. Serena has had amazing success, however this year it was all about winning a 22nd slam. She was under pressure to win a 22nd title to equal Steffi Graff’s record. The pressure did not come from others, it was her own want and expectation, she had failed to win in the previous finals that year, however again due to her persistence and belief in herself she was able to push through the disappointments and gain that 22nd title! Wimbledon appears to be that special title that all the top players want to win. From a spectators point of view you can see she has the support of her family and friends. It was also great to see her coach congratulate her, I suspect he played a major role in getting Serena through this period; it was great to see them celebrate their success together! You also had Portugal win the European Championship, where Ronaldo had so much passion that even when he was injured and taken from the field of play, his passion to succeed shone through from the side lines. Everyone thought he was in it for himself, however he was encouraging his team mates to win the game, his energy from the side lines was incredible. This seemed to filter onto the pitch which eventually lead to Eder scoring a fantastic goal to with the tournament! Portugal were not the best team in the tournament and they did not play the best football, however it was their spirit and determination which saw them through. Ronaldo was an instrumental figure in giving the team belief, and Ronaldo has plenty of belief which is shown in the way he plays the game; he was able to transfer this belief through his passion to the team! If you take these examples into account you can see patterns that emerge. It is when the challenge arises and whether you succeed at the challenge or not, you can CHOOSE to take that experience and use it to your benefit. In the light of failure or not succeeding, most people will give up and frame it in a way of “ I am no good and I cannot do this” and will at that point give up. Just imagine if Andy, Serena or Ronaldo did that, do you think they would be winning major titles or tournaments? How do you think successful people frame failure? Do you think they just give up? No they don’t, they use any failure as a learning experience, or they use the disappointment to drive them to be better at what they do; to learn what happened from that experience and use that learning experience to improve what they do. Think about this for a moment, if we were successful at everything we did, do you think we would learn much? Probably not, because where is the need to learn if we succeed at everything? In reality we do not succeed at everything, and life throws us a challenge so we can learn and grow, Yes this can be painful at times, but if we frame it in a way so we use it as a learning experience we will only become stronger and better versions of ourselves as we face down our challenge. Whether we fail or succeed at the challenge is not the point, they key what have we LEARNED from that experience. So the best learning we can take from this is to be conscious about how we feel and what we experience whilst going through our challenges, noting what we learned along they way. Remember you can always check out my success mindset podcast if you click here. (please come back to read the rest of this blog though!) 1) So when you next face a challenge, think about these points. What can I learn from taking on this challenge? This is all about when we are presented with something we are not sure of taking on. It could be a big project, but remember the bigger the challenge the more of a learning experience you will gain from seeing it through, whether you fail or succeed, you will get rewards from attempting to take it on. 2) Will I take this challenge on? This will be an emotional response, most of the time we will shy away from big challenges either because we think we cannot do them or we think the work involved is too great. If you are thinking this way then just take it one step at a time, don’t think of the challenge as a whole, break it down into smaller pieces, so that it is more manageable. Also don’t think or predict any outcomes, yes have a vision as to how this may look but keep it fluid. As you progress through the challenge the vision may adapt and it usually becomes bigger and brighter than what you first envisioned! 3) Who else has had a challenge like this that I can draw inspiration or ask questions of? This is where you can find a role model who may have dealt with a similar challenge. If it is a work challenge there may be someone who has dealt with something similar; if it is not a work challenge it may be financial challenge? There could be a number of different challenges and for each challenge there will be people who would have had some type of experience in dealing with that specific challenge. You can find role models to help you. Books from some of the leading minds in the world could help you here, as well as finding those people within your current circle of influence. Whatever the challenge there are people who may have had to face something similar, you just have to be alive to finding who these role models are and follow their pattern of success. Successful people always leave clues, once you find those clues you will be able to use their strategies to gain similar results! So remember push through the challenge and whatever the outcome you can learn and improve every time you take a challenge on. Think about the people we have just talked about and how they have achieved their amazing success through hard work dedication and commitment to their goals and ultimately what they want to achieve. Those people are now living life on their terms and you can too! Let me know what you think of this weeks blog. Don’t forget to share this blog if you think it will benefit others.
