I used to run away and hide, or I would do nothing! You know something scary is coming and you see it on the horizon, you feel that fear and it can either freeze you or you can start running away! What do you do? I used to run away and hide, or I would do nothing! So what’s the answer? It’s always action and thinking about the smallest thing you can do to get into action. Any form of action just to create momentum will help you decrease the anxiety and fear! The best news of all is that it’s learnable! The problem is, is that your brain is always telling you to go the other way You see most of us suffer from fear and anxiety, it’s just we’ve never been trained how to deal with it! I still suffer from it but I’ve learned now that fear and anxiety is a signal to do something! It’s telling you that you need to take some form of action. The problem is, is that your brain is always telling you to go the other way, but you know deep down that the other way leads to even more pain and even more fear. I lived in so much anxiety and fear that I got depressed, I would stay small and stay inside that comfort zone and wondered what the point in life was. You see when we live in comfort we never discover our purpose. You have to resist the temptation to not do anythingThe purpose of your life is to discover what you’re here to do, the last thing you want is to rinse and repeat your life, if you want to avoid the rinse and repeat life you have to step into anxiety and fear! It’s a real tough ask too when you’ve never been made aware that it’s a signal for action so this is what I’m telling you now. You have to resist the temptation to not do anything and bury your head in the sand because it’s only going to get worse most of the time. Of course, as with everything there are caveats, and we need to be able to distinguish between events we can and cannot control. So if you can do something then do anything to start the ball rolling. I was nervous and afraid as I don’t want to disappoint people As an example I was given some training to deliver, I was nervous and afraid as I don’t want to disappoint people and deliver poor training, but the material was not up to date, and in this type of scenario I never blame I look for what I can do. So in my response to this, I approached some subject matter experts and got them to deliver on the out of date material or technical elements whilst I delivered the motivational generic training which gave context to the technical elements. Now I could have just left it, if I did I would have let my delegates down and that was something I was not prepared to do! At the moment I have delivered the first week and we are onto week two I am working closely with the experts and it’s going well at the moment as the first week was awesome. So if you ever suffer from anxiety and fear do something about itSo bearing in mind the whole thing could have gone terribly wrong, I helped turn that round by reaching out to the subject matter experts, and that’s where the lesson lies for me. So if you ever suffer from anxiety and fear do something about it, no matter how insignificant you think it is once you take action that leads to another action and another and before you know it you are tackling the issue head-on and the fear decreases because you are doing something about it! As Brian Tracey says “Eat that frog first!”
Learn to lean into fear and anxiety and watch the impact on your life! Until next time stay inspired!
