You have the drive to be significant and that’s part of the success formulaIt can be really scary when we think about what success is. Some people play it down, some people say they don’t want success. I am always very curious about success and what it means. As human beings I think we all have a drive for us to be significant in some way, this is because we want to know our worth and why we were put on this planet. My view is that some people are not aware of what their strengths are and they think they can never be successful. Even if they don’t verbalise it, deep down they would love to have something that makes them come alive, that makes them feel connected with this life and this awesome planet we are living on. You need to know why you were put on this planet and what you are meant to do - Joe NoyaFor me, it’s all about me improving what I do every day. If you know my story ( if you don’t just go to episode 1 of the Inspiration Nation podcast at inspirationnation.org.uk) I was searching for something, I wanted to know why I was here on this planet and this is where my coaching journey started. It has been and still is a very rocky road with plenty of challenges, highs and lows, but to me, that’s what success is all about. It’s a very personal journey and what success is to you, may not be someone else’s version of success. Some people may regard success as raising a family and making sure the bills are paid. Yes, this is a success, but it’s all about what we demand of ourselves every day. Money, nice cars and homes etc are just outcomes and decorations - Joe Noya What success isn’t is all the outcomes like money, nice cars and all that stuff. Those are results, you can still have those things and still not have success because the way you got to that stage was because it was not something that resonated with you! Perhaps you just did it for the money, and if you just do it for the money then it’s not connected to you, so the results are nice but they are just not sustainable and you don’t enjoy your life. You feel that something is missing! Of course, it would be nice to have plenty of money in the bank, nice cars, but those are just the decorations it’s not you. To have real success you have got to know you and what you feel success is; think about what resonates with you? Success is what you expect of yourself - Joe NoyaSuccess is not what other people expect of you, it’s what you expect of yourself and whether you are keeping those promises to yourself. After all, you have to live with yourself and live in your head with your thoughts. So the thing with success is to get the inside right first. What’s going on in that head of yours? What are you saying to yourself when others are not around? When I was going through my depression I felt worthless. Yes, I have a nice home and I have a loving family and a good job, to some people that is a success and I agree with that. But I needed something more, I needed to add more value in some way to feel that I am adding value to the world and getting what I needed, not just running the same life over and over and doing the same things. That’s when coaching came into my life and I have never looked back, my family say I am obsessive about coaching and self-development and I am and I’m proud of it! Your hobbies can be clue as to what your life mission may be - Joe NoyaI will never forget an interview I had about 6 years ago, I was going for a training position within a financial business and at the end of the interview they asked, “ So what are your hobbies?” I answered self-development, and they asked what else because that was linked to the job. So I said I also liked to play bass, but at that point I hadn’t picked it up for six months but it was something I enjoyed and felt I just needed to give them something else. But by a long way self-development & coaching is the most significant single obsessive thing that I love to do, it is the thing that fills me up and every time I produce content and coach people I feel alive and I feel that I am adding value to peoples lives. I believe that my mission is to inspire people into action! I am so fortunate to have found my never-ending mission and I never see me doing anything else! It’s funny because I had to go through a trauma to find it and that’s my mission! Helping people find their mission without then having to have that pain and trauma that I suffered for a long time!! Your mission is to find what you love to do and to go do it - Joe NoyaSo you may ask so how do I find my mission, and my purpose so I can look at my life and feel successful? When you ask this question you will be more focussed on finding the answer. This I feel is what humans should be asking themselves, that’s your mission and purpose? This is what I believe, it’s not about the stuff you have but how you feel about yourself! When you feel great about yourself that’s success, not all the outside stuff, which can be nice but it’s all about being good with you and what you feel is a success. It’s not about other people’s opinions you have just got to do your thing! So let’s look at some things you could do to start to find your success and your mission! 1 - Try lots of things and see which of those things do you enjoy most? Most of this is about having new experiences and seeing what you enjoy. Imagine if you found something you loved and thought I would love to do this for the rest of my life. Then focus on that! 2 - Where do you find energy? What I mean here, is when you do something that makes you feel great, what’s the energy? Could you do it forever without effort? Then this is a clue as to what fills you up. Make sure you examine it and ask what is it about what I am doing that I love? 3 - Once you find things that give you energy, make a plan to bring them more into your life. Start to bring in routines and actions that bring it more to the front of your life and prioritise it. Make sure you tell your loved ones about your new endeavour and that you set boundaries. Chances are you are reading this because you are unhappy and want change and progress. The reason for that is because you are not doing things you enjoy, so make sure you put you first then balance everything else out after that. Put you and your needs first to start creating success - Joe NoyaThe reason you need to put you first is that you have to have the energy to help others. If you’re not in a good space then you are not going to be a good friend, partner, husband, wife etc. The key to all this is, is that if you are living your life from a good space i.e you are doing things that fill you up you are going to be much better in your relationships with others. So much of the time we put others first and we ignore our own needs. Please don’t do this, you have needs and you need to make sure they are met. Once you meet them your energy levels will go through the roof and you will find that your relationships with other humans will start to improve massively. I have found that this worked with me.
So now you have a framework on how you should look at success and what it means to you. This is so important that you recognise this and it must be connected to who you are and not what you think others want to see. So go out there, be successful in your way and go crush it.
