We all need time to pause and think. We are all currently in lockdown, so now is the perfect time to really work on how to think. Most of the time we all go through our days thinking all types of thoughts and we can go through the day not even being aware of those thoughts until we start to get negative feelings such as stress or anxiety. This a self-awareness process because most of the time we are so busy doing things that we never get the time to pause and think. But due to what’s happening with the pandemic, now has never been a better time to look at the way you’re thinking. Remember thoughts are thingsSo how can we improve our thinking? If we do start to feel anxious or feel negative we need to start to examine the thoughts. Remember thoughts are things and they can set into motion all types of emotion from fear to positive emotions such as joy. Where do you think these feelings come from? They come from our thoughts. Usually, anxiety comes from us projecting into the future and worrying about things, depression is usually based upon past experiences so you’re reliving those painful moments which causes those negative emotions. Have a trigger to become presentThe key around this is to be able to have a trigger to become present. By being in the present I mean examining what you are thinking. If you’re feeling stressed or anxious you need to examine what you’re thinking about. Do you have something coming up that you’re fearful of? Or perhaps you have to have an awkward conversation and you’re not looking forward to it. Whatever it is you need to examine that thought. Perhaps you’re predicting something that’s never going to happen and you’re catastrophising an event! So how can we start to examine these thoughts and how can we improve our thinking? |
