If you try things you get to know what works You must have heard Yoda “Do or do not there is no try” well on some level I agree you have to do if you don’t do anything things are never going to happen. For most of us, it’s trying something, and when we try things we know whether we like it or not. As I’ve gone through my life I’ve been many things from a cleaner to washing dishes in a hotel, to selling aquatic fish. I had to try lots of things before I got into coaching! I fell into the corporate world through trying, I just needed a job and in that corporate world I started at the bottom and worked my way up. Getting into a Leadership role which then lead me to help others with their careers and now I coach, and train leaders and people wanting to advance their careers. It’s taken me 30 years to get to this point and there was a point to it, all the time I was trying different things, sometimes I tried and stayed where I was and was forced to move through market conditions i.e. redundancy later as I became more self-aware I moved out of a choice for growth. I’ve even turned down a role which could have advanced my career because I now know what lights me up. We only get to know this by trying lots of different things! If you don’t like sprouts you’ve most likely tried themSo let’s choose an example if you don’t like sprouts you’ve most likely tried them. Now I know people who love sprouts, I tolerate them but I don’t like them. But some people say they don’t like sprouts but haven’t tried them. So how do you know you like something until you try it? You don’t, so if you don’t put yourself in a position to try things then you will be living a limited life right? Especially if you went through your life hating sprouts but never tried one! Once you have that vision then you know the direction you need to take, it acts like to GPS!!The point is, is that you have to try lots of different things before you know. You can’t think your way through things because usually, that heightens your fear. For example, when I have had to deliver new training or coach someone new I do get fear, now if I trained myself not to try doing those things I wouldn’t be where I am now. I know I love coaching so when I do feel that fear I do it anyway, I tell myself I’mm excited it’s because I know it’s a step toward the vision I have for my life. It’s always important to make decisions off the back of the vision for your life, because once you have that vision then you know the direction you need to take, it acts like to GPS!! I needed to learn to be flexible on the outcomes but also to be patient!By trying lots of different things it gives you clarity about where you want to be. Let’s take my coaching as an example. Before I heavily got into coaching I did enjoy inspirational coaching books like Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within both by Anthony Robbins. Now after reading those books I thought it would be great to be able to do this for people, but first of all, I tried it on myself. The reason for that is I needed to see if it worked. Now I’ve got to be honest, when I first tried it, I failed a lot! I set unrealistic goals and I felt overwhelmed and my negative side would take over. I wanted specific results and they didn’t always turn out exactly how I wanted, so I needed to learn to be flexible on the outcomes but also to be patient! This is why I have jumped in and out of coaching over many years. But like anything coaching takes persistence and consistency. I had to find a way of being consistent. So I went to that coaching weekend and tried coaching, guess what I loved it. I think it’s the almost silver bullet to self-development. You have to pick your moments with coaching and that’s something else that I learned along the way, not everyone loves coaching the way I do! You do have a deep-seated desire to do somethingWhat I’m trying to say here is that if you do have a deep-seated desire to do something you need to go and try it. If you want to be a business owner you have to live in the shoes of a business owner and know what it takes to become one. You need to ask yourself what do I need to do? What do I need to learn? This goes for anything in life, the trick is, is to recognise that when you try something, does it give you energy? Is it something that you’re obsessed about? Is it always on your mind? Self-development and coaching are always on my mind I want to improve and I want to add value, so I know deep down that this is my purpose to serve the world in this way. I look up to people who inspire me, even fictional characters like Rocky or Neo from the Matrix. Lastly trying things helps you identify what your values are. For me I have to feel inspired, things have to inspire me. So when I’ve looked into my past there’s a pattern. When I’ve looked at the films that I used to watch or watch they have an inspirational tone to them. I look up to people who inspire me, even fictional characters like Rocky or Neo from the Matrix. Every day I like to find things that inspire me, but I have to have an environment that inspires me. So all my social media is inspired based, YouTube etc is all arranged in that way. The reason it’s that way is that it inspires me and every day I look through that lens to make my decisions. If someone is going to give me an opportunity I will look at it through the lens of inspiration and ask will this inspire me? If it doesn’t and I’m able to say no then I will. If it does then it’s a hell yes!!! So think about this as you go through your week, your month year and the whole of your life. Try lots of things especially sprouts you never know you may have been missing out the whole of your life and that’s because you didn’t dare to try. So keep trying and until next time stay inspired! #IN
