How do we get an Olympic attitude? Just imagine if you could adopt the habits of those amazing athletes, so you could emulate even just a small fraction of their success. Well, the good new is that you can. I am not sure if you have been watching the Olympics, but I have been watching elements of it and the thing that struck me was the amount of times the athletes, when interviewed recalled some really tough times before they had their successful break through. Most of the athletes give credit to their coaches and family because without them they would not have got through the bad times without that support. This is where you can adopt a similar mindset. You can stay committed to your goals and really put in all the effort and belief into those goals. So to emulate that Olympic attitude you also need a good support network. So you can you really call on on that support and get feedback in a way which helps you get through the tough times. Who is there for you to listen whole heartedly to the issues you are facing, and are willing to listen so you can process your challenge to take yourself to the next level? These are questions you need to think about, because as well as having our own determination we also need to surround ourselves with people who will provide us with valuable feedback and support at times when we need it most! Andy Murray has just retained his Olympic tennis title, imagine if he had surrounded himself with people who did not believe he could retain the title, do you think he would have retained it? His family, and his coach would definitely believe that he could do it, but if they did not believe it then it would be unlikely that he would have achieved that success! Think about Laura Trott and Jason Kenny, they won 10 gold medals at the Olympics between them, with their medals alone they would have been 13th in the metal table! When I watched their interviews they understood where they were strong and where they needed support. Laura said that she is quite a stressful person and gets highs and lows and she said that Jason is her balance and remains calm when she goes through these moments. They learn from each other to produce outstanding results; again the same patterns are emerge; we must surround ourselves with people who support us. As you can see this applies to us all, even Olympic athletes! Team GB has had an amazing Olympics and as a team they have supported each other and this is another factor as to why they have been so successful. Just remember to get an Olympic attitude you do need to have your own mind set of determination and a will to succeed, but you also need people around you who will support you in your darkest moments, they will be like the shards of light in those dark places that will guide you through so you eventually come through and achieve what you want to achieve. So look around you, do you have these people in your corner? If not start looking now, go out there and search for like minded and helpful people. Sometimes family do not support and can sometimes hold long outdated paradigms that do not encourage you to achieve the heights of success you want to achieve. It does not mean that they do not want the best for you, sometimes it is just that they want to protect you from disappointment; but remember it is sometimes the disappointments that drive us on to even bigger and better things, because we learn from those set backs. When we don’t get what we want, we learn and adjust our position to become better at what we do and then we achieve that success. That is what the great athletes do, they learn from the times they don’t succeed and become stronger and more resilient and you can too! You will hear about the successes; what you won’t hear about are the set backs and struggles and the times they did not succeed, but believe me that would have happened for them to get to this point in their lives! So get your Olympic attitude, push through the disappointment, know that by doing and learning you will get to your intended destination. Yes, you might get there in a different what than you expected, but you will get there. How are you going to get and apply your Olympic attitude? Leave your comments below. Remember be awesome out there!
