Being happy the scientific approach! Guest blog post by Rana Tarakji So how can you be happy In a world filled with invasive technology that makes people compete with each other? Many of us have lost the appreciation for the small things in life, inherently the things that make us happier human beings. In one of his blog posts, Joe talks about living on your own terms and also about having a balanced life. If you want to check out Joe's life balance video click here Without ensuring that you are paying attention to all areas of your life, your happiness can be affected. Joe describes this as your investment portfolio; so if one area of your life is a struggle other areas of your life which are going well can will give you strength to get through those times and to start improving the areas of your life that need developing. At different times of your life certain areas will need more attention than others and this is where your personal development is key, and happiness is a large part of that. Unhappiness can arise where we compare ourselves to others and look outside ourselves for others to provide us with happiness, when all along we are responsible for our own happiness and must look for opportunities to develop it. Whether it is spending more time with our families or looking up an old friend we have not seen in a while; what matters is you actively seek genuine happiness in the small miracles of life, for example enjoying the sun on your face or the sound of nature as you walk through your favourite park. So what are the other small things that can make us happier human beings? Science has proven on several instances that appreciation, thankfulness, meditation, serenity and such similar pure actions can lead us to experiencing more happiness almost on the spot. I'm not saying we should be hippies and focus our entire life around some of these tools, but we have to find a way to integrate them more into our lives since research has proven that a significantly vast portion of Americans are unhappy, for instance.
