Once you blame you are powerless to do anything. You blame, you even curse and where does it get you? It gets you nowhere because you’ve given your power away, you’ve allowed something external to rob you of your decision making power. Once you blame you are powerless to do anything. Great leaders don’t blame they don’t become the victim, they empower themselves and others and you will never find the blame game in the remit of a true leader. For sure there will be people who have manipulated but they will not have long-lasting longevity and their reputations will be tarnished and there will always be the lack of trust. If you blame you become a victim of your circumstances. If you want to blame don’t become a leader, if you blame you become a victim of your circumstances, you mistrust and think the world is against you when in reality you can choose a different thought pattern. A pattern that serves you that will let you become the best version of yourself. We have to accept responsibility and sometimes there is a temptation to blame another or a circumstance for your shortcomings. Even today I was wrestling with a decision to either be my true self or to comply, it was a dilemma because I know what I wanted to do and at the same time, I had a responsibility to others. So at that moment I sought counsel and waited to see what the best solution was. You see true decision making comes from within, it does not come from victimhood it’s about being your authentic self and not being afraid to show your colours at all times even though at that moment it may result in your circumstances becoming very difficult. In those difficult moments, that’s where you grow and become the person you were meant to be. I decided that I would make that decision and what I did was to reach out to someone I trust Life tests us all the time and when I was making my decision I know I wanted to make the right choice that would serve the people that I wanted to help and the at the same time be a person of service and authenticity. So I decided that I would make that decision and what I did was to reach out to someone I trust, and through that action, I was able to de-charge the emotion and make the right decision at that moment that we would re-visit after counsel to make the best decision for all parties including me. Our truth lies in taking responsibility So when we look at blame it’s a feeling, it’s so tempting to fall into because it’s easy to blame, it requires no work because the problem is out there not inside. But that is such an illusion, our truth lies in taking responsibility and making those difficult choices to speak your truth, to not blame and to start to influence your circumstances. When I read Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl I was so inspired, so empowered that if someone can decide to live their best life even though they were detained in a Nazi prisoner of war camp then we can all decide to live our best lives no matter our circumstances. He reflected and realised that the one thing they could not take was the power to choose, to choose to be kind, they could not control his mind. Yes they could torture him and yes they could restrict his food, make him do hard labour but all the time he was free, free in his mind and this is something that even his captors could not even comprehend. Look for the kindness in other humans beings even in the most difficult of situationsWe all have this power; how easy would it have been for Viktor Frankl to simply blame his captors, blame the war for his circumstances but he chose to exercise his power, the power to choose how he was going to think about his circumstances, to be able to look for the lessons and the good, To look for the kindness in other human beings even in the most difficult of situations, this was inspiring for me and I would urge you to go and read it.
