Welcome back to the blog, I really appreciate the support and hope you get value out of these blogs; I am always happy to receive feedback from whether negative or positive. I am writing this whilst in my car on my phone as I like to take advantage of down time to write, and I also need to feel in the groove for writing if you know you what I mean. I also have one of those annoying colds which hang about at this time of year, but that's not going to stop me writing! Anyway on with the blog! This week I am talking about unexpected events and how they can impact us if we don’t make conscious decisions and choices. An unexpected event happened; I was woken up at 3am by my beloved in severe pain, so after calling our amazing emergency services we were down the hospital at 4am! The doctor said that they were testing for viral meningitis! This made me think and how I would cope if that diagnosis was made, luckily it was not meningitis and it was severe neck sprain! The point I am trying to make is that you never know what life may throw at you, so being flexible and being able to flow with life is critical to success. Sitting there not knowing what the diagnosis was, was very concerning, but also realising that it in that moment the event was out of my control; being patient for the outcome and waiting for the further information before taking further actions and knowing that I will handle whatever the outcome is would be is critical to developing our resilience. If we accept that where we are now is a result of the decisions we have made, then we can accept responsibility and accountability which gives us the power to move to what we want to do. It is all too easy to blame circumstances for where we are and I do accept to some people extent that not all situations are all of our doing; the key is what actions we take when we are in the situation. The quality of our actions will determine the quality of the results or outcomes; this is why we must stay conscious in our decisions and consider the potential impacts of our actions. Remember when I wrote about whether we respond or react? If you go back through this month's coaching blog archive you will find it there. So the same strategy applies here; when you have an unexpected event be conscious about what you are going to do and respond rather than react, and if your actions are good quality the you will get quality results. So what can we start doing?
