Habits are funny things, usually they tend to emerge unconsciously, meaning that we don’t really think about them, or we don’t think about the long term effect those habits are having on us. For example you might be wanting to lose weight and you come across a doughnut, this is where the challenge is. Now if you have always eaten a doughnut on a Sunday morning when you meet your friends, your brain might say this is okay I have always done this and this is something me and my friends do; also it’s going to taste soooooo goooood! Now if you are trying to lose weight eating that doughnut is not going to help you, you will get the short term pleasure, but then you will at some point regret it and start beating yourself up. This is because you want to lose weight, and you know deep down that eating doughnuts is not going to work because of the vision you set i.e. loosing weight. So we need to chose our habits carefully, we need to be conscious about it, and resist the short term reward and start thinking about the long term effects of those habits. So if you want to lose weight, you have to eat the right foods, take exercise etc. This can be applied across the board, depending on what you want to achieve with your life.
