This is why we need to get an objective view about how we are getting on It’s always about the fear of the unknown! I’m just over halfway through this project and now it’s feedback time! As I was constructing the feedback questionnaire I was feeling fear and anxiety, the reason for that is that I just don’t know what people are going to say. That’s the point right? This is why we need to get an objective view about how we are getting on, we can make our own judgement but we always need other perspectives so we can become better. Even if I don’t like the feedback, that’s where the gold to growth is I’m dreading it, I’m fearful but that’s because it is unknown. I have done a lot of training and had a lot of feedback but this is different as I have had to be actively involved in providing feedback on their performance as leaders and I’ve had to have some difficult conversations which I do find the hardest. I think this is why I’m fearing the feedback but I know deep down that I will become better. Even if I don’t like the feedback, that’s where the gold to growth is, that’s where we grow and improve because we can be aware enough to detach and look at it objectively. This is what I will focus on, I have sent it with the intention that I need to be better to the people that I’m serving. Even if I have had to have those difficult conversations I will be able to find out how that has landed and if I need to change my approach which tools I could employ to look to improve things. Yes it’s nice to receive praise, we all like that but where we grow is from the cold hard truth and the perspective of others. We can always make judgements ourselves but the best feedback is from others provided it’s given with the right intention. It’s all very well to give ourselves accolades but we can have that bias which doesn’t help us grow. Yes it’s nice to receive praise, we all like that but where we grow is from the cold hard truth and the perspective of others. Whether our ego can cope with that or not is another matter! But that’s the key we need to detach from the ego look at it with a detached view and think about how we can just be better humans to each other and come from a place of service |
